Integrated control of gastrointestinal parasites in ruminants: the guarantee of a healthy herd

Integrated control of gastrointestinal parasites in ruminants: the guarantee of a healthy herd

Pastos y Forrajes 23(1): 65-78

The development of resistance to anthelmintics suggests that drugs are not the best solution for the control of gastrointestinal nematodes in livestock. Although anthelmintics will probably remain the mainstay of nematode control for the foreseeable future, alternative control measures must be explored. These include: immunization, selective breeding for genetic resistance, the development of alternative drugs and biological control.
