Integrated management of postharvest pests of pigeonpea: status and potential

Integrated management of postharvest pests of pigeonpea: status and potential

Status and potential of pigeonpea in eastern and southern Africa Proceedings of a regional workshop, Nairobi, Kenya, 12-15 September 2000: 174-180

The economic importance of bruchids (Helicoverpa armigera and Callosobruchus chinensis) on pigeon pea in northern Uganda is quantified by establishing a reliable loss assessment technique to determine the points, levels, and time series of losses. An overview on the management of bruchids on pigeon pea by cultural/traditional control, physical control, pest management using botanicals, chemical control and screening of plant resistance to bruchids is presented.
