Integration of T-DNA into plant genomes: prototype and realities

Russian Journal of Plant Physiology 47(3): 312-317

Agrobacterium has evolved the unique capacity to transfer a piece of its own DNA, the T-DNA (transferred DNA), into the nuclear genome of plant cells. This property has extensively been used for the introduction of new genes into plants (either for research or applied purpose) and for the inactivation of plant genes by insertion mutagenesis. As analyses of integrated T-DNA are accumulating, evidences for complex phenomena occurring during integration processes are appearing.
