Intellectual property protection: patents



Perspectivas Rurales 3(1): 7-13



The protection of intellectual property is discussed, with particular reference to the situation in Uruguay. Relevant Uruguayan law is reviewed briefly, especially in relation to advances in biotechnology. An outline is given of rights and the regenerative capacity of living organisms, and the implications for the pharmaceutical industry are discussed.
