Diabetes Care 23(10): 1499-1504

A prospective analysis study with a 12-year follow up (1959-72) was conducted to estimate the effect of intentional weight loss on mortality in overweight individuals with diabetes in the USA (25 states). A total of 4970 overweight individuals with diabetes, aged 40-64 years, who were enrolled in the American Cancer Society's Cancer Prevention Study I, were included in the study.
