Interaction between Marek's disease and chicken infectious anaemia viruses

Interaction between Marek's disease and chicken infectious anaemia viruses

Selezione Veterinaria ( 10): 727-742

Results of co-infection with Marek's disease virus (MDV) and chicken infectious anaemia virus (CIAV) are reported. The viruses were present in the same isolate AZ9/98 disguised as a lymphocyte suspension from a case of MD immunity break. Inoculation of the isolate into 3-day old SPF chicks induced a two-stage disease. The first was characterized by severe malaise, anaemia, severe bursa of Fabricius and thymus atrophy occurring between 10 and 20 days and high mortality (near 100%).
