Interaction between genotype and feeding-keeping conditions of Estonian Red cows

Data were analysed on the milk yield relative breeding values (RBVs) of 2275 cows on 385 farms. The cows were classified into 3 groups according to the percentage of Danish Red (DR) genes, and the farms into 3 milk yield production levels. The RBVs increased significantly as the percentages of DR genes and the production level of the farm increased. An increase of 25% in DR genes increased the RBV by 1 percentage point.
