Interaction between nutrient cycling and soil characteristics in a Quercus rotundifolia forest

Different aspects of nutrient cycling in Quercus rotundifolia (Quercus ilex subsp. rotundifolia) stands were studied at Evora, southern Portugal, between March 1994 and September 1997. Litter traps placed 2 and 4 m distance from tree stems were used to collect litter fall. Gross rainfall, throughfall (at different distances from the stem) and stemflow were measured continuously and samples for chemical analysis were collected weekly.
