Investigations on the effect of evening primrose seeds (Oenothera paradoxa) on the methane production by ovine rumen contents

The experiments were performed on eight cross-bred sheep- (40-45 kg body weight) aged 2-4 years. The animals were fed twice daily between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. The composition of the feed was 50% meadow hay and 50% C-J concentrates. Forage consumption was 2.0 kg to 2.4 kg. Rumen fluid from sheep was collected by rumen cannula 2.5 hours after morning feeding for 10 consecutive days.
