Japan's recent increasing import of horticultural produce

Japan's recent increasing import of horticultural produce

Acta Horticulturae ( 524): 117-129

This paper examines the recent trend of increasing imports of vegetables into Japan. Due to the globalization of the world economy, Japan's imports of vegetables have been increasing very rapidly. In the 1960s, vegetables were supplied almost entirely domestically, while in 1995 the amount of imported vegetables, fresh and processed, reached 2.1 Mt. The items cover almost all products, such as onions, asparagus, broccoli, carrots, squash, etc.
