Kinetic analysis of Kluyveromyces lactis fermentation on whey: batch and fed-batch operations

Process Biochemistry 36(6): 531-536

Kinetics of whey fermentation by Kluyveromyces lactis was studied using 10-, 100- and 1000-litre fermentors in batch and fed-batch mode. Data on batch fermentation were used to estimate growth model parameters, and fed-batch data were used to validate the model. The specific growth rate was well represented by the Monad equation. Estimated values obtained for 3 growth parameters generally showed good agreement with values in the literature.
