Maize response to water deficit

Maize response to water deficit

Romanian Agricultural Research ( 7/8): 77-81

Six maize hybrids were grown on cambic chernozem at Fundulea in 1994-96 with or without irrigation. Maize water consumption under dryland conditions ranged from 259.4 mm (hybrid Danubiu) to 389.2 mm (hybrid Robust). The greatest reduction of plant water consumption under dryland conditions was 40.2% (Danubiu), as a mechanism of maize stress adaptation. Under limited water supply conditions (60% available water), grain yields ranged between 8950 kg/ha (Volga) and 13 249 kg/ha (Robust).
