Mast cell, eosinophil and IgE antibody response of BALB/c mice to percutaneous infection with the canine hookworm Uncinaria stenocephala

Cellular and serum antibody responses were evaluated in mice infected percutaneously with infective larvae (L3) of the nematode Uncinaria stenocephala. Mice were infected with 500 larvae each, and examined 14 or 28 days later; some received a 2nd dose on day 14 and were examined one or 14 days after that. Second infections were cleared much more quickly than first infections. Significant eosinophil infiltration and mast cell was observed in the skin at the site of infection.
