Methoxychlor increases susceptibility to predation in the salamander Ambystoma macrodactylum

The effects of methoxychlor on larval salamanders (Ambystoma macrodactylum) were studied. Lowest observed effects concentrations and dose-response relationships were determined, using embryonic survival and larval cardiovascular and antipredator performance as end-points. Immature stages of Aeshna were used as predators. Of the eggs incubated with 10 mg methoxychlor/litre, less than 10% hatched. Methoxychlor had only a modest effect on the rate of gill blood flow.
