Leaching of nitrate-N, reduces N fertilizer efficiency, and increases pollution of surface and groundwater. Use of nitrification inhibitors is one measure of reducing nitrate leaching. Neem (Azadirachta indica) cake and its extract have been identified as locally available materials with nitrification inhibitory properties.
