Observation on the life history of Dermacentor silvarum under the condition of experiment

Observation on the life history of Dermacentor silvarum under the condition of experiment

Endemic Diseases Bulletin 16(2): 74-77

The results showed that three hosts were needed in these ticks with one generation per year. Although the adult ticks were seen in spring and autumn, they were attached to hosts in spring only. The unfed adult ticks could survive the winter in natural conditions for about 9-10 months, whereas the fed larvae and the nymphs died in winter. For the life cycle of D. silvarum, the duration of engorged female adults to next generation adults was 64-130 days, average 97 days.
