Observations on laboratory mass multiplication of braconid endoparasitoid Apanteles taragamae Wilk. on early instar caterpillars of Opisina arenosella Walker on coconut

Observations on laboratory mass multiplication of braconid endoparasitoid Apanteles taragamae Wilk. on early instar caterpillars of Opisina arenosella Walker on coconut

Entomon 25(4): 261-268

The procedure for mass multiplication of Apanteles taragamae on early instar caterpillars of Opisina arenosella is described. Egg to adult period of A. taragamae is completed in 17.92[plus or minus]3.41 (female) and 19.80[plus or minus]2.93 (male) days. Longevity of adults were 10.73[plus or minus]4.92 and 11.20[plus or minus]5.04 for male and female respectively. Maximum percentage parasitism occurs on the first 2 days of exposure of host larva although egg laying continued up to 15 days. Average percentage parasitism was 64.7 and 61.8% respectively under lab, and field conditions.
