Observations on oviposition decisions by females of a Nigerian population of Callosobruchus maculatus (F.) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae)

Observations on oviposition decisions by females of a Nigerian population of Callosobruchus maculatus (F.) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae)

Nigerian Journal of Entomology 14/15: 51-61

Oviposition behaviour of mated C. maculatus when presented with seeds bearing different C. maculatus egg-loads was observed for 8 h under laboratory conditions using Ife brown cowpea seeds bearing 0-8 eggs each. In a related experiment, mated C. maculatus females were presented with a choice between seeds with no eggs or either seeds bearing one or two eggs to which the females had easy access, or which were obscured from the female.
