Occurrence and management of canes in West Bengal

Occurrence and management of canes in West Bengal

Indian Forester 125(9): 845-854

In West Bengal (India), ten species of canes occur naturally within the agro-climatic zones of the Sub-Himalayan Bhabar and Tarai. With the exception of two high altitude cane species (Calamus acanthospathus and Plectocomia himalayana), the other eight species found (C. erectus, C. flagellum, C. leptospadix, C. guruba, C. tenuis, C. latifolius, C. viminalis and Daemonorops jenkinsianus) appear in wet mixed plain forests in the swampy pockets.
