Enterotoxing producing capacity of 162 S. aureus isolates from foods, equipment and workers from meat processing plants was analysed. 117 isolates produced enterotoxins (72.2%); eighty-eight (75.2%) isolates produced one type of enterotoxin and 29 isolates (24.8%) produced 2 or more types of enterotoxins. Type C enterotoxin was the commonest (42.7%) while type D was the least common (2.5%). The most toxic type A enterotoxin was found in 12.8% of enterotoxin-producing isolates.
