Occurrence of hydatidosis and porcine cysticercosis in Guwahati city

The prevalence of hydatid cysts (Echinococcus granulosus) was investigated in 313 cattle, 47 buffaloes, 279 pigs and 223 goats slaughtered at different abattoirs in Greater Guwahati, Assam, India, from November 1996 to October 1998. Pigs were also screened for the presence of Cysticercus cellulosae The infection rates of hydatid cysts were 13.73, 27.6, 1.79 and 2.24 in cattle, buffalo, pigs and goats, respectively.
