Occurrence of indicator microorganisms in whole UHT milk

A total of 120 UHT milk samples of 4 different commercial brands, purchased from Ribeirao Preto, Sao Paulo region, Brazil, were examined for the presence of mesophilic, thermophilic and coliform microorganisms. Mesophilic and thermophilic aerobic or facultative microorganisms occurred in 53.33 and 44.17% of samples, respectively. Coliforms were not detected in any of the UHT milk samples examined.
