Plant population on castor beans/cowpea intercrop. I. Yield and yield components

Two field experiments carried out in 1974-75 in Monteiro, Paraiba, Brazil examined the effects of plant population on yield and yield components of a castor beans (Ricinus communis) and cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) intercrop. The results indicated that: (i) castor beans and cowpea yields increased with increase in the density of the respective intercrop. (ii) Castor beans yield decreased with increasing cowpea plant density.
