Present status of geographic information system and remote sensing applications in Pakistan and their future prospects

Present status of geographic information system and remote sensing applications in Pakistan and their future prospects

Operational remote sensing for sustainable development Proceedings of the 18th EARSeL Symposium, Enschede, Netherlands, 11-14 May 1998: 413-418

Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) in Pakistan is presently applied in diverse sectors but on a very limited scale. This includes public sector (provincial and federal government departments), NGO's, education and research organizations. At present, the application of GIS is limited to water management, forestry, planning, education and crime fighting. However, the application and use of RS data is very rare.
