Examination of the eyes of 90 horses from Upper Bavaria revealed that 20 animals (22.2%) were infected with Thelazia lachrymalis. Adult worms and stage I larvae were isolated from the ducts of the lacrimal glands and, in one horse, from the periorbital region and the conjunctival sac. Uni- or bilateral infections were observed in 14 and 6 horses, respectively. The worm burden was low, except in a 22-year-old mare whose eyes were infected with 53 adult worms.
