Response of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) to irrigation in different water-table conditions

In a field experiment during summer 1992 and 1993 in the Hirakud Command of Sambalpur district, Orissa, India, on a sloping terraced field with clay loam soil where the water table was 50+or-10, 90+or-10 or 110+or-10 cm below the surface, groundnuts OG 85-1 were irrigated at 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, 1.0 or 1.2 IW:CPE. Pod yield increased with increasing irrigation rate and increasing water table depth. Optimum water table depth was estimated to be 118.5 cm.
