Groundnuts were grown at Chiplima, Orissa, India during summer in 1992 and 1993 on clay loam soil in terraces having water tables 50, 90 or 100 cm below ground level and given 6 irrigation treatments. Recommended NPK rates were applied. Root growth was examined by digging trenches to examine some plants in each replicate at 40 or 80 days after sowing and at harvesting.
