Seed viability and biochemical changes during storage of winter squash (Cucurbita maxima Duch.) seeds

Seed viability and biochemical changes during storage of winter squash (Cucurbita maxima Duch.) seeds

Vegetable Science 27(2): 168-171

Seeds of winter squash (C. maxima Arka Suryamukhi) were stored in kraft paper bags, polyethylene bags, glass containers and aluminium foil laminated pouches at ambient (16-35 degrees C), low (5 degrees C) and sub-zero (-20 degrees C) temperature for five years. The initial percentage of seed germination was retained for two years at ambient temperatures and thereafter was reduced to 50% during the fourth year and 20-30% during the fifth year of storage.
