Study of serum calcium, phosphorus and parathyroid hormone in patients with chronic renal failure on protein restricted diet

The aim of this study was to assess longitudinally with time, the serum levels of calcium, inorganic phosphorus and parathyroid hormone (PTH) in chronic renal failure (CRF) patients managed conservatively. Thirty patients with CRF were included; 10 patients each with creatinine clearance (Cr Cl) between 21-30 ml/min, 11-20 ml/min and 10 ml/min or below this level. Protein content of diet was advised according to CrCl with supplementation of calcium carbonate.
