The problem of lack of constant supply of agricultural raw materials for processing in Africa is discussed. Africa's natural ecological constraints are reviewed and the way in which traditional farming methods have evolved and become more sophisticated is outlined. Particular reference is made to cropping systems in the forest zone and indigenous cash crop production in a coastal region. The African land management and cropping system is evaluated.
