Testing the progeny of plus and minus trees of Quercus robur in the Shipov forest



Lesovedenie ( 2): 37-43



Results are given of 17 years testing of the progeny of 24 plus-trees and 13 minus-trees of Q. robur from productive stands in the Voronezh region (S. Russia). Data are tabulated on height development of the progeny from year 1. The best of the plus trees is the 'ideal oak', age 170 years, height 35.2 m, d.b.h. 74.0 cm. Of the 24 plus-trees studied, the progeny of only 2 significantly exceeded the control plants in height by 8-12% at age 17 years.
