O. vulgare is a backcrossing plant which allows pollination between flowers within one partial inflorescence. It is characterized by morning anthesis with the majority of flowers (up to 86%) opening from 10.00 to 12.00 h. The duration of anthesis of a single flower varied from 5 to 8, and in one case up to 37 days.
