The chemical composition of dried samples of lucerne, white clover [Trifolium repens] cv. Zerno, and Italian ryegrass [Lolium multiflorum subsp. italicum] cv. Dilana was investigated. The nylon bag technique was used to determine rumen digestion in 3 sheep. Clover and lucerne were quicker digested than grasses, thus allowing a higher feed intake over a shorter period (important for the feeding of high-yielding cows).
