The nutritive value of two lucerne species: trifoliolate (Medicago media Pers.) and multifoliolate (Medicago sativa L.) as affected by cutting dates and growing seasons

Two lucerne species, M. media Radius (trifoliate) and M. sativa Legend (multifoliate) were compared in field experiments conducted at Prusy Experimental Station near Cracow, Poland in the years 1997-99. The plants were cut once in 1997 and four times in 1998 and 1999 to estimate forage, dry matter (DM) and protein yields. The forage samples, leaves and stems collected at each cutting were analysed for gross chemical and amino acid composition.
