Genetic variation and heterosis for grain protein content were investigated in F2 and F3 hybrids obtained by crossing 4 durum wheat (Triticum durum) cultivars with T. dicoccoides. Preliminary results indicated that some of the genes increasing grain protein content in the wild tetraploid wheat could be transferred to durum wheat. The results also showed that there was wide genotypic variation among the cross combinations.
