The role of tree improvement in maintaining tree production in the Ganges Flood plains

The role of tree improvement in maintaining tree production in the Ganges Flood plains

Integrated management of Ganges flood plains and Sundarbans ecosystem: Proceedings of the National Seminar, Khulna University, Khulna, Bangladesh, 16-18 July, 1994: 82-91

The Ganges floodplain lies in SW Bangladesh. The people of this region are very much dependent on major and minor forest products. There is an acute shortage of fuelwood in the greater part of this area. The average timber production is very low in comparison with that from other parts of the country. Adequate land for traditional silviculture for the production of long-rotation industrial species is not available.
