The storage life of shallot bulbs, stored for 5 months in nets, sacks or boxes at Alemaya and Dire Dawa, Ethiopia, was investigated over 2 seasons. Storage method had little effect on the quality (sprouting) of bulbs stored at Dire Dawa, and these bulbs exhibited low rates of rotting. However, at Alemaya, storage method significantly influenced keeping quality. Bulbs stored in sacks lost the most weight and exhibited the highest rates of rotting and sprouting in both seasons.
