Tourism, national parks and wildlife

Tourism, national parks and wildlife

Tourism and national parks: issues and implications: 137-151

The impacts of tourism on wildlife in the national parks of sub-Saharan Africa, including island archipelagos are discussed. Also described are strategies that can reduce adverse impacts in order to maintain the integrity of parks and their attractiveness for tourism, on which their future largely depends. Central to the discussion is the concept that tourism should more equitably balance the costs and benefits of conservation, which are often disproportionally shared by local communities.
