Transport stress in dairy calves. Effects of rearing conditions on metabolic and hormonal variables



Tierarztliche Umschau 55(1): 22-28



Calves which had been single-pen reared or group-reared with a constant or changing group composition, were exposed to short term road transport at 60 days of age. Body weight and temperature and blood constituents (total protein, albumin, blood urea, creatinine, glucose, thyroid hormones, cortisol, Ca, Mg, P and Fe) were determined before and immediately after transport and on the following day.
