The major Entamoeba histolytica cysteine proteinases (CPs) were separated by affinity chromatography on bacitracin-Sepharose. It was shown that at least 2 of the high MW CPs (the 35 and 48 kDa proteins) correspond to EhCP2 and EhCP1, respectively. The detection of a 35 kDa band within the extracts suggests that EhCP5 is also represented as an entity with a different migration behaviour.
