The State of Maharashtra, India, has developed irrigation systems on 3.4 million ha of its 20 million ha cultivable area. Irrigation monitoring was installed in 30% of this area, and more importantly, shows that substantial irrigation schemes have been utilized to counteract waterlogging and salinity problems.
