Field trials were conducted in the Southern Guinea Savanna of Nigeria in the 1997 and 1998 dry seasons to evaluate the yield and returns of sugarcane intercropping with horticultural crops. The treatments tested consisted of sugarcane (Bida Local or Ajax chewing cane), watermelons Calabar, tomatoes Labonita and okras V.35 grown alone or intercropped. The horticultural species were planted between 1.5 m inter-row spacing of sugarcane.
