A new method of evaluating seedling emergence rate in direct seeding under submerged soil condition, and new gene sources of seedling emergence

A new method of evaluating seedling emergence under field conditions is proposed. In field tests, seeds of 23 representative rice cultivars were placed at a 20 mm depth from the soil surface with a tape seeder. Positive correlation between the percentage of seedling emergence was recorded in the field test and previous growth chamber tests. To confirm this correlation, the field test was repeated using 103 rice cultivars, including 47 cultivars from Russia and 50 from Nepal.
