A preliminary study of inter-genotypic differences in immature embryo culture in maize

Journal of Sichuan Agricultural University 19(1): 24-26

Immature embryos, 1.35 to 2.5 mm in length, of maize inbred lines 18-Bai and 1913, and their hybrid, were cultured in vitro to investigate their enlargement and callus induction. Embryo enlargement rate did not differ markedly between genotypes and reached its maximum about 11 days after inoculation. As for embryo size, 1.8-2.5 mm embryos gave satisfactory results for inducing embryonic calli, 1.8 mm being the optimum.
