A radio-navigation system for mobile agricultural units

A review is made of radio-navigation systems being developed in the USA, UK and Russia for mobile agricultural units (e.g. tractors and combines). These systems are based on GIS packages and satellite radio-navigation systems (GLONASS, Russia; NAVSTAR, USA). A scheme is illustrated for navigating vehicles with chip-cards, e.g. a tractor applying topographically varying rates of fertilizer, or a combine with continuous recording of grain volume and m.c.
