Agrobacterium mediated transformation of 'Marsh' and 'Star Ruby' grapefruit (Citrus paradisi Macf.) and 'Valencia' sweet orange with the coat protein gene of Citrus Tristeza Closterovirus

Agrobacterium mediated transformation of 'Marsh' and 'Star Ruby' grapefruit (Citrus paradisi Macf.) and 'Valencia' sweet orange with the coat protein gene of Citrus Tristeza Closterovirus

Proceedings of the Interamerican Society for Tropical Horticulture 44: 107-110

Citrus tristeza closterovirus (CTV) is the most economically important disease affecting citrus production worldwide. It has been demonstrated that transgenic plants expressing a virus coat protein (CP) have increased resistance to the virus. The objective of this study was to obtain transgenic 'Marsh' and 'Star Ruby' grapefruit (C. paradisi) and 'Valencia' sweet orange (C. sinensis) plants expressing the coat protein gene of CTV strain T30 or T36, engendering resistance.
