Heritability and genetic advance for 11 traits (days to flowering, plant height, number of primary and secondary branches, length of main raceme, number of siliquae on main raceme, days to maturity, yield per plant, 1000-seed weight, oil content, and protein content) were studied in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India, in 1997/98 and 1998/99 using 9 Indian mustard cultivars (Varuna, KR-5610, KR-1467, KRV-Tall, T-6342, RLM-198, YRT-3, RC-781, and PR-15), 36 F1 hybrids, and 36 F2 hybrids.
