Three hundred twenty four isolates obtained from rice blast samples collected from Wujiang, Ganyu, Tongzhou, Gaoyou, and Yixing, Jiangsu, China during 1997-99 were assessed on 13 Japanese rice cultivars with known resistance genes. The cultivars with resistance genes Pi-ks, Pi-ta, Pi-ta2 and Pi-sh were infected by most isolates, and the virulence frequencies of pathogen population to these resistance genes ranged from 64.2 to 97.2%.
