Anemia prophylaxis in adolescent school girls by weekly or daily iron-folate supplementation

This prospective study was conducted between August 1996 and February 1999 in Delhi, India to examine the benefits of anaemia prophylaxis in 2088 adolescents school girls with haemoglobin level of >7.9 g/dl, including 702 on daily (group 2) and 695 on weekly (group 3) iron-folic acid (100 mg iron and 500 micro g folic acid) administration. A total of 691 girls served as controls (group 1), who did not receive any tablets for the first 100 days, and haemoglobin was estimated at 115+or-5 days.
