Assessment of avoidable yield loss in banana due to root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita

Yield loss in banana Poovan caused by M. incognita infestation was studied in Tamil Nadu, India The avoidable yield loss was 30.9% using carbofuran 3G at 4kg a.i/ha. Significant reduction in plant height, pseudostem girth, number of leaves, and leaf area was observed due to the nematode. The nematode infestation also deteriorated the edible qualifies of the fruit by reducing the carbohydrates, reducing and nonreducing sugars, total soluble solids, and ascorbic acid.
